16. Victoria School of Writing - five-day summer
intensive session, July 15 to 20

The summer session is rapidly approaching and we encourage you to
get your registration in as soon as possible. Be one of the next ten
people to send your registration in and win one of ten books by a
Victoria-based author! If you'd like us to hold a spot for you while
you prepare your application, please contact us to make
arrangements.

The Victoria School of Writing is one of Western Canada's best
kept secrets - mostly because the setting (a private residential
school on 20 acres of land) and workshop sizes are so intimate. With
up to 84 students a year (max. 12 per workshop) we've hosted nearly
1,000 students, many of whom have reported back to us that the school
changed their lives and they're not exaggerating. Last year, student
Polly Steele said, "This was exactly what I needed at this time.
I am leaving with a renewed sense of purpose and with answers to my
pressing questions about my writing project."

Our past 70+ instructors rave about the school too. Patrick Lane,
who recently won the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Literary
Excellence called it "The finest independent writing school in
the Pacific Northwest." Canada's first Poet Laureate George
Bowering said, "I hardly ever agree to teach writing workshops. I
am sure glad I made an exception for the Victoria School of
Writing."

This year's fantastic cast of award-winning author-instructors
includes:

Di Brandt - Poetry
John Gould - Fiction
Billie Livingston - Short Fiction
Carrie Mac - Young Adult Fiction
Brian Payton - Literary Non-Fiction
Harold Rhenisch - Memoir
Tom Wayman - Poetry

This intensive, supportive program is aimed at honing craft and
building community. The session will be held on the tranquil,
park-like grounds of a private residential school in Victoria, BC.
On-site accommodation and meals are available: five nights, plus five
breakfasts and four dinners is $410 for double occupancy and $540 for
single occupancy.

Includes workshop, one-on-one consultation, a lecture/reading
series, open mics and quiet writing time. Tuition, including five
lunches and final barbeque is $610 ($530 if you're a member of the
Federation of BC Writers). Each workshop is limited to 12 participants
and you are encouraged to register by June 15th.

For full details, including workshop descriptions and how to
register, please see the attached printer-friendly, downloadable PDF
